  1. Tarnow Tuj50m

It would be handy if you could post a photo Richard, one of the companies I worked for had several Tarnow TUB 50's- I don't know the difference but these were either 1.25mtrs between centres or 1.5mtrs between centres and would probably swing about 400mm dia over the bedways, the gearbox was in the base of the headstock and drove the spindle via vee-belts fixed between the spindle bearing housings ( a good system, but the belts are difficult to change ). You changed speed with a star wheel on the side of the headstock that moved the gearing via an extension shaft to the gearbox in the base, any of this sound familiar?

If it does they have the handbooks ( or they did about 2 months ago ) and they owe me a few favours, I may be able to copy one for you. Regards Tyrone. I knew Churchill used the Tarnow as the base for Hoods Computurn as it has the Tarnow nameplate on the end of the bed.The plate`s possibly positioned a bit high up for him to see.:-) Interestingly I`ve just bought a Churchill CTC4 slant bed cnc and someone has scrawled on it 'Polish crap'.I think this may be more to do with the fact that the people who owned it for the last four years never managed to power it up rather than the machine being crap and I have found no indication yet of the base machine being Polish but probably is. I knew Churchill used the Tarnow as the base for Hoods Computurn as it has the Tarnow nameplate on the end of the bed.The plate`s possibly positioned a bit high up for him to see.:-) There are a few reasons I could not be 100% sure, first is there is no manufacturers name on the plate, just a model number, secondly the first part of the model number has been damaged and although it could well be TUR-50SN the T is non existant and the U is only half visible. Lastly however is probably the most pertinant reason I do not see the plate often, I tend not to stoop so low Hood.
