Evinrude 200 Manual 2016

  1. Evinrude 200 Manual

Good day all, Just got off the water and wanted to check and see what the Code 6 means. Engine has been performing flawlessly since the key switch was replaced shortly after purchase. The engine has 145 hours and today popped this error code up and would not allow rpms in excess of 4000. I ran the boat 3 days in the last week and with the same gas and no issues. I religiously use top quality gas and Evinrude 2+4 fuel stabilizer. Fuel filters and gear oil was changed by dealer back in April.

Boat is propped correctly and typically runs just shy of 70 mph. Today at the start of the trip engine ran great with no excessive noise, vibration or other indicators. All performance below 4000 was responsive and typical. I informed the service manager at Jorgenson Marine in Beaumont TX of the problem and he claims there is a software update for this.

Is this correct? I read the other post and his error code resulted in a failed #6 cylinder failure and a complete lock up of his engine. The more I read the more I am concerned. I will be taking the boat up to the dealer on Monday and will report out the verdict. All suggestions would be appreciated. The dealership (Jorgenson Marine) delivered on time and they did the following repairs: Changed the #6 injector. Updated the software. Changed all fuel filters. Replaced plugs and ensured correct gap settings. As as well as other fluid changes and trailer repairs that were requested by me.

The shop had informed me that the repairs were complete and they were going to do a water test and I am sad to report that it failed. Same knock code and they went verified all repairs and will be requesting assistance throug BRP. I sent an email to BRP requesting information on Friday and I still have not heard back from them. The technician said that all cylinders had great compression and no noticeable knock was observed and seemed puzzled and will require BRP assistance.

I also spoke with the owner and he believes that the knock sensor is the issue but will need to hear back from BRP. So far Jorgenson has treated me outstanding and has met all stated deadlines. Once they get guidance and this is resolved from BRP I will post another update.

Hoping for the best!! Thanks for the response. The dealership has assured me that I have the latest software and they are working with BRP and they believe a new powerhead will solve my issue. It is 4 days out so I will report back if this resolves the issue. I was was under the impression that 92 octane can cause harm to the engine? But if that's the key to reliability then it's the only gas that will go into my boat. I am am elated with the performance of this engine but am questioning the reliability and after purchase support.

This issue will not be corrected for almost a month. Seems like reoccurring issues like this would be handled much quicker and with more certainty of repair outcome. Ill let let everyone know what the verdict is next week. 'There is never just one thing wrong with a boat'; - Travis McGee, main character in a book series by John D.
